Mushroom Sauce for Steak

Description

Homemade steak sauces don't get any better than this Mushroom Sauce! Not only does it taste great on steak, but you can add it to many other things, too!

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 20 ounces sliced mushrooms (about 4 cups)
  • 1 cup low sodium beef broth
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 3 fresh thyme sprigs
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • coarse kosher salt & freshly ground pepper , to taste

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, melt the 2 tablespoons unsalted butter with the 20 ounces sliced mushrooms (about 4 cups), tossing to coat. Cook mushrooms down until they are half their original size.
  2. Reduce the temperature to medium and then add the 1 cup low sodium beef broth, 1/2 cup red wine, 3 fresh thyme sprigs and 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, stirring well and then simmering for 15 minutes.
  3. Remove the thyme sprigs.
  4. In a small mixing bowl, whisk the 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 2 tablespoons water, whisk into mushroom sauce.
  5. Heat for an additional 2 minutes, then remove. Season with Coarse kosher salt & freshly ground pepper to taste.
